Let’s talk about Search Engine Organization (SEO) Marketing and Paid Ads and consider what might be the best approach for your business.
There are two main strategies a business owner can choose from when it comes to getting in front of more people online:
Organic Search or Paid Ads
Let’s take a look at the Pros and Cons of each so that you can decide which strategy is the best for your business.
Pros of Organic Search
If you equate organic search and paid ads to the age-old tale of the tortoise and the hare, organic search is the tortoise. Slow, steady, and stable wins the marketing race. This is if organic search is done the right way. If you want to build something over the long haul then organic search is for you. Not to mention, organic search builds brand authority. Brand authority builds trust. And you know what they say: People like to do business with people they like, know and—you guessed it—trust!
Cons of Organic Search
Search engine algorithms are changing constantly. These changes impact organic search results. You’ll constantly have to keep up with all of the changes if you want SEO to work for your business. Like I said above, organic search is slow and takes time. Plus, SEO writing is a technical skill that needs to be learned. As business owners, if you aren’t hiring an SEO writer then you’ll have to learn yourself. I’m willing to bet you already have enough on your plate!
Now let’s talk about the other option in online marketing: Paid Ads.
Pros of Paid Ads
Like any good hare, paid ads offer quick results. While organic search will take a few months to show results, paid ads can show results in a matter of hours. You can quickly do an A/B test. That is, to put two ads out there to see which one performs the best. If you’re paying for ads, you want to make sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.
Cons of Paid Ads
But unfortunately, paid ads can get expensive quickly. Factor in that only 60% of people don’t even click on ads—not to mention there is an even bigger learning curve to understanding how to create ads and build audiences that perform well—and paid search might not be for you at this time.
At the end of the day, you have to do what’s right for your business.
